Give Educational Study Tour to Salvadoran Youth
The 1 week educational study tour for Salvadoran orphans is designed to instill pride and knowledge of their native country. Each sponsorship of this study tour enhances self-esteem, creates cultural awareness, motivates one orphaned teen to stay in school and explore future job opportunities.
Poverty, abandonment, and abuse are the major factors for children living in state-run orphanages in El Salvador. NESES is able to give 25 teens a year a chance to escape the isolation of the orphanage and to be introduced to educational and job opportunities.
Since 1998 the NESES Study Tour has encouraged 300 students to stay in school, graduate from high school and continue at the university or technical school of their choosing. 85% of these students are living productive lives in their own country and culture and have begun an awareness of anti-violence solutions. The value of the study tour is recognized by the orphanages and the Salvadoran government as an important component to these students' lives.

NESES [Children Studying El Salvador] is a non-profit organization founded by Ricardo Pocasangre, a native of El Salvador. Its objectives are:
1. Enriching the lives of children in El Salvador who are orphaned, abandoned or underprivileged and in the care of the state
2. Instilling pride and knowledge about their own country by providing week long study tours of El Salvador, so students could appreciate the great assets and beauty of El Salvador. As many teens see El Salvador as a hopeless place that has nothing to offer them, the founders of NESES think it is paramount to guide them, as parents might, to see the amazing, cultural richness of El Salvador for themselves.
3. Inspiring these young people to take advantage of the educational and occupational opportunities in their country with scholarships requiring good academic performance and recommendations from teachers and caregivers.
