Jubilee is a women's transitional program that works to bridge the "digital divide" that separates those with access to technology (and subsequent employment advantages) from those who have none by providing computer, employment and life skills training. You can sponsor either a life skills class or technology class for women in search of employment and help increase their chances of securing a job in today's competitive job market.

The Need

Jubilee Women's Center exists because homeless women need time, a safe environment and support services to transition from emergency or domestic violence shelter to independent living. While in Jubilee's program, women can access technology and life skills training, vital skills for women who may come from a life of abuse, or never had a stable home, job or life skills. With these training opportunities, each resident has the tools she needs to transition out of a survival lifestyle and into sustainable employment and independent living.

Technology classes that help bridge the digital divide include: Intro to Computers, Word, Excel, Access, QuickBooks and more. Residents can also earn a Microsoft Office Specialist certification, a credential that will boost her career development and help her become economically self-sufficient. While technology training provides a vital skill for women searching for employment, it is equally critical women receive basic life skills, such as budgeting, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, resume writing and interview skills, that are necessary to job retention and to carry on a productive and successful life. In 2010, of residents able to work, 73% gained employment while at Jubilee, on average tripling their income.

Jubilee Women's Center's mission is to provide homeless women a safe and supportive place to live and an opportunity to learn while becoming self-reliant in housing and employment. Led by the guiding principle that all women deserve respect and dignity, Jubilee is dedicated to providing extensive support services to help every woman make permanent life changes.
