Invest in Women Grassroots Leaders

iLEAP empowers women grassroots leaders from around the world by providing them with the skills, professional networks, and global perspectives necessary to create change in their communities. Your donation provides women from the developing world with a scholarship or weekly stipend during a ten-week, comprehensive leadership training program in Seattle. Fellows are hosted by an organization working in their area of expertise, allowing for a mutually beneficial professional exchange. Fellows also live with a local home stay family; participate in community events; and take part in various field site visits with other development organizations, NGOs, and businesses to expand their networks and learn about interactions between civil society, government and the private sector in Washington State. Classroom courses consist of organizational management; technology and communication workshops; and discussions around women's leadership. Your gift supports women leaders to return to their communities inspired and even more committed to their cause, while becoming connected to a new network and family, in Seattle.

The Need

Given high rates of maternal mortality; stark gaps in education and income; and pervasive violence against women (particularly in conflict zones), it is clear that women are disproportionately affected by poverty around the world. Women grassroots leaders from the developing world are working tirelessly each day to address the challenges facing their communities. Investing in local leadership is a long-term, sustainable approach to poverty reduction. Furthermore, development experts agree that investing in women and girls is critical to achieving broader development goals. In fact, studies show that of every dollar we invest in women living within poverty stricken areas, 90 cents will go towards her family and local community. Invest in a woman grassroots leader, and you can count on a positive investment in her family, her community, and her country.

iLEAP inspires and renews social leaders and global citizens through integrated leadership programs that ignite hope and transformation in the world. iLEAP envisions a aworldwide community of interlinked global citizens and innovative organizations, working together to realize our fullest potential and to celebrate our common humanity.
