The Need
Educational opportunities for young women in Nepal are rare due to cultural stereotypes and families not having the money to send girls to school. Statistics show that a majority of young girls are married before they reach the age of 15. The literacy rate for women in Nepal is 27%. We believe that by helping one individual at a time, we can make a positive change in the world and have a meaningful connection with that individual. The women we support awaken us to our global connectivity and the universal desire for peace and goodwill. The rippling effect is monumental.
About Bo M. Karlsson Foundation
Partner since August, 2012
The Bo M. Karlsson Foundation procures funds for underprivileged women to attain higher education at colleges or trade schools. Through their educational pursuits, we help them build character and strength, making them self-reliant, confident and productive citizens.
The Bo M. Karlsson Foundation is run solely by volunteers enabling them to put donations directly to scholarships for young Nepali women. A dedicated Education Committee reads each application, speaks to the young woman either by phone or through e-mail in order to make sure the scholarship is being used to its best advantage. Since 2007, they have put 25 women through school, earning degrees in nursing, engineering, journalism, education, business and accounting.
