The Need

Throughout modern Tibet, many Tibetans live daily in poverty. Faced with an uphill battle to improve their circumstances, they find they can never reach their goals. Education will improve their circumstances and also serve to uplift and preserve Tibetan culture as a whole, which is in grave danger of being lost forever. Sengdruk Taktse School is currently home to nearly 300 boys and girls that are either orphans, come from broken homes, or from underprivileged families. Not only do the students study at Sengdruk Taktse School, they live there and consider it their home. Without this school, many of these students would be living as beggars or passing their days doing physical labor to help support their families.

At the heart of the work that Joru Foundation does is the belief that all people have something to offer the world. The problem is that many people face hardships and do not have access to the resources they need in order to realize their potential. The Joru Foundation is a non profit organization dedicated to supporting quality education inside Tibet. They believe that education is the most crucial tool that one must be equipped with in order to be able to thrive and accomplish their goals. Their work focuses on a school in the Golok region called Sengdruk Taktse School.
