Give Backpacks to Visually-Impaired Nepalese Kids
The goal of this project is to provide needed school supplies and personal items for blind children in Nepal by distributing useful backpacks. In cooperation with the Nepal Association for the Welfare of the Blind or 'NAWB', 'Backpacks for the Blind & Visually-Impaired' will be distributed to needy children who will be identified by NAWB. You can help empower these needy children by providing them with these specialized backpacks. The backpacks will contain a folding white cane, an abacus and math kit for the blind, a Braille slate with stylus, either a talking watch or Braille watch, and a Braille ruler.

The Need
Children and adults with disability are considered damaged goods in a developing country like Nepal. They are thought to be cursed or suffering from a past-life sin. If these blind children are given education and opportunity, they can have productive lives.
The items contained in the backpacks are fundamental to success for blind/visually-impaired (BVI) students. The white-cane helps to open up the world in a society that is just now recognizing that people with disabilities have dreams, rights and abilities. A talking-watch or Braille-watch is something that can help give the BVI person the time-bearings to successfully prepare for their school schedule and indeed life-itself with its many meetings and appointments requiring prompt attention. The Braille slate/stylus, abacus, math kit and Braille ruler are as necessary to the BVI child as a pencil, pen and paper are to a sighted child. These are more than basic needs to a BVI child. Without them a BVI child has little or no chance to succeed in school.
About The Rose International Fund for Children (TRIFC)
Partner since December, 2009
The mission of The Rose International Fund for Children (TRIFC.org) is to improve the lives of children in developing countries who have a disability, are orphaned or are disadvantaged. TRIFC raises funds through donations, grants and hands-on fundraising activities. With the funds raised they provide financial support to existing non-profit organizations in Nepal that share their goals and vision. Their focus is on providing support in the areas of education, medical needs, nutrition, facilities and environment improvements. TRIFC participates in project planning, coordination and implementation. In addition, they raise awareness of the living conditions of these children by documenting and publishing our project work. TRIFC believes in sharing resources with those less fortunate.
