Provide Healthcare to Nepalese Women

You can provide a woman with the opportunity to decide when to have children, allowing her to continue her education and work until the family has the means to feed their children. A planned pregnancy is often a healthier pregnancy. Your donation of $30 will help provide a woman with eight months of contraception.

The Need

ln the mountain villages of Nepal women and children are at particular risk of malnourishment, disease and early death. The children commonly suffer from malnutrition, diarrhea and pneumonia, frequent but preventable causes of death. For the women, childbearing is often a perilous condition. Nepal is one of only two countries in the world where women have a life expectancy less than that of men. Allowing a family to determine the size and timing of their family allows the woman to earn an income, attend school, and delay having children until there is adequate food to feed the family. Moreover, women receiving family planning have fewer health problems when they do become pregnant.

Himalayan HealthCare began in 1992 to create sustainable development programs in the remote areas of Nepal in order to improve the quality of life for its people. Himalayan HealthCare achieves its mission by providing primary healthcare, community education, and income generation programs that enable people to be self-supporting. They are non-governmental, non-profit and non-sectarian. Some of their outreach programs have specifically targeted women because Nepal is one of the very few countries where the life expectancy of women is less than that of men.
