The Need
ln Nepal the contamination of the village's water supply with fecal material is a major cause of illness and death through diarrheal disease. When Himalayan Healthcare first arrived in Tipling in 1992 the lack of toilet facilities was similarly a major cause of diarrheal illness especially among the children in that area. Traditional homes in the mountain village of Tipling, Nepal have neither running water nor electricity and so the family's toileting is often done in the open out of doors. Providing a safe way for the family to dispose of their fecal waste has been shown to be a cost-effective way to significantly improve the health of the villagers.
About Himalayan Healthcare
Partner since November, 2010
Himalayan HealthCare began in 1992 to create sustainable development programs in the remote areas of Nepal in order to improve the quality of life for its people. Himalayan HealthCare achieves its mission by providing primary healthcare, community education, and income generation programs that enable people to be self-supporting. They are non-governmental, non-profit and non-sectarian. Some of their outreach programs have specifically targeted women because Nepal is one of the very few countries where the life expectancy of women is less than that of men.
