Your support of Project Concern International's (PCI) Casa Materna (Mother's House) program, an integrated reproductive and maternal and child healthcare program will help address the challenges of access to quality healthcare services for Mayan women and their children in the impoverished Department of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Your gift will help provide women with clinical attention, evaluation, medicine and other services to ensure healthy pregnancies and access to health services for their children. Additionally, both parents and family members are trained in "low-tech" methods of effective infant care such as "Kangaroo Mother Care" where an infant is warmed through skin-to-skin contact, to improve the health outcomes of infants and improve their chance of survival.

MADRE is working with partners in Northeastern Kenya to respond to the crisis in Somalia, providing urgent aid such as calorie-dense, nutritious food, emergency water supplies, health kits with medicines to fight diarrhea and infections and oral rehydration salts. They are also providing training for mothers to detect the signs of malnutrition in their children. With your help, MADRE can give its partners the resources to help them feed another baby and to keep another mother from grieving the loss.

iLEAP empowers women grassroots leaders from around the world by providing them with the skills, professional networks, and global perspectives necessary to create change in their communities. Your donation provides women from the developing world with a scholarship or weekly stipend during a ten-week, comprehensive leadership training program in Seattle. Fellows are hosted by an organization working in their area of expertise, allowing for a mutually beneficial professional exchange. Fellows also live with a local home stay family; participate in community events; and take part in various field site visits with other development organizations, NGOs, and businesses to expand their networks and learn about interactions between civil society, government and the private sector in Washington State. Classroom courses consist of organizational management; technology and communication workshops; and discussions around women's leadership. Your gift supports women leaders to return to their communities inspired and even more committed to their cause, while becoming connected to a new network and family, in Seattle.

Each sponsorship will open new opportunities in terms of income-generation and will help to break the cycle of poverty for the student and future generations. First preference will be given to Afghan refugee girls in Pakistan because of the unique challenges and cultural opposition they face in getting an education. Once the demand for girls’ scholarships has been met, Barakat will offer the opportunity to refugee boys.

You can help meet the immediate needs of rape survivors in makeshift camps for displaced people in Haiti. Your donation will also support community-based anti-violence strategies that uphold the full range women's human rights. You can provide hygiene matierals to women who have been raped to help prevent infections along with peer counseling from other survivors. You can also sponsor daily trainings where women learn how to stay safe, manage stress, care for traumatized children and maintain family health and hygiene in the hazardous environment of the camps. Peer-counseling groups of rape survivors who empower one another to heal and rebuild their lives are also offered.

Help to educate women and girls in Afghanistan. This gift will help towards increasing female literacy rates in Afghanistan. You can sponsor a female student's education in either a lower level literacy course (called Sowat Amausi which literally means 'to teach one to become literate') or throughout her higher level literacy courses (called Sowat Hayati which translates to 'literate for life'). Lower level courses include an accelerated 10-month curriculum covering grades 1-3 and higher level courses cover grades 4-9 in six years.
